Initial Orthodontic Assessment

Referral and Initial Assessment

Most orthodontic treatment is undertaken by Specialists in Orthodontics and is frequently instigated by a referral from your general dental practitioner when a problem is noted. However, you do not need to have a referral letter and you can contact our practice directly for an initial private orthodontic assessment. At this appointment your teeth and jaws will be assessed, you can discuss possible orthodontic treatment with an Orthodontist and find out:

  • The risks and benefits of treatment
  • The expected outcomes
  • The types of braces suitable for your problem
  • The anticipated duration of your treatment
  • An estimate of the cost of treatment and the various methods for payment

Orthdontic Records and Full Case Assessment

Everyone considering orthodontic treatment will require a individualised orthodontic treatment plan. In order to formulate an accurate treatment plan it is necessary to arrange an appointment for orthodontic records:

  • Appropriate x-rays of the teeth and jaws
  • Impressions (moulds of the teeth) for dental study casts
  • Detailed photographs

Using these records a detailed, individualized treatment plan can be prepared for you using the orthodontic appliances you have chosen. Following this the following documentation will be prepared:

  • Diagnosis of your teeth and jaws
  • Detailed treatment plan
  • Consent to treatment
  • Schedule of fees

Once you are entirely happy with the proposal, treatment can begin.
